FASTLY’S GLOBAL CYBERSECURITY REPORT. HOW CYBERATTACKS ARE REDUCING COMPANIES’ PROFITS
A new annual report by Fastly, Inc. (NYSE: FSLY), a leader in global cloud platforms, provides a detailed analysis of the impact of cyberattacks on global businesses. According to the study, leading global companies faced 46 cyberattacks during the year, resulting in a loss of about 9% of their revenues due to security breaches.

Sean Leach, Vice President of Technology at Fastly, emphasised that The main damage to the business comes from not the cyber attack itself, but time required for recovery customer confidence. On average, recovery takes 7.5 months, which is a significant risk for businesses in an unstable economic environment.

However, there is a lot of uncertainty in the cybersecurity industry: 35% of professionals believe that they have spent too much on security tools, while 18% feel that they have spent too little. Only 55% of security tools are being used to their full capacity, indicating a significant waste of resources.
Shortage of qualified specialists cybersecurity also remains a challenge, with 30% of professionals citing insufficient staffing as a cause of security issues in the past year. A lack of experience and skills among existing staff exacerbates the problem.
One of the answers to these challenges may be the introduction of generative artificial intelligence, which 51% of surveyed professionals plan to invest in. Artificial intelligence is not only seen as a potential source of threats, but also has a great potential to have a positive impact on cybersecurity. There is no need to be afraid of generative AI. It is a useful tool that reduces labour intensity and helps solve many of the problems faced by the cybersecurity industry, including the talent pool.
Although 35% of cybersecurity professionals predict that generative AI will become a major threat factor in the next year, 77% see its impact as positive in the long term. First and foremost, companies recognize the potential of generative AI to reduce the burden on overburdened security teams and see it as a solution to current problems with recruiting the right talent.
